Detroit’s Forest Park/Diggs Community Plan focuses on the Greater Forest Park and Eastern Market area, where the City of Detroit and the Detroit Housing Commission are planning for the future of Forest Park Apartments and Diggs Homes. Together, these two public housing communities represent 201 deeply affordable units, and the plan is designed to preserve affordability while opening the door to new mixed-income housing opportunities.
What distinguishes this effort is its close connection to one of Detroit’s most active economic districts. In addition to housing redevelopment, the Plan advances a broader strategy centered on education, childcare, employment, healthy food access, and improved neighborhood amenities. Resident input and collaboration with community-based organizations have helped shape priorities for safer streets, better parks, stronger transit connections, and mixed-use development that builds on nearby Eastern Market activity. The result is a Plan that links neighborhood reinvestment with inclusive growth.
